Jobs for Nature programme
By Stephen Ward
The equivalent of more than 120 full-time jobs are expected following the announcement of $5 million in new funding for waterways restoration projects in Waipa District.
Under the Government’s Jobs for Nature programme, Te Awamutu-based Pūniu River Care is due to receive $4 million over four and a half years.
Pūniu River Care’s cash will go towards fencing and planting alongside tributaries that flow into the Pūniu, which has great cultural significance to local marae, hapū and iwi.
